National Pseudorabies Control Board Report

During the past year, including the session during the last LCI Annual Meeting, the PRV Control Board has acted on these requests for status:

Renewal of Stage III, IV, or V - recommended approval - 16

Revewal of split state status and enlargement of the Stage III areas - recommended approval - 2

New state status - 16

Request for Stage V - recommended approval of Stage V - 1

The Control Board advised USDA-APHIS-VS as to what stage or stages a state qualifies for. The state sends Veterinary Services an application for status. The board members are sent copies to study and makes their recommendations to the Board secretary, Neal Black. Neal then sends a formal recommendation to Veterinary Services. The PRV Control Board consists of six members. Two members represent Livestock Conservation Institute, two members represent United States Animal Health Association, and two members represent National Pork Producers Council. PRV Control Board members are Dr. David Thawley, Mr. Philip Bradshaw, Dr. George Edwards, Dr. John Ragan, Dr. Beth Lautner, and Mr. Hilman Schroeder.

The Board will make recommendations on ten applications at their meeting this week.
