Bovine Tuberculosis

Recently the Official Norm of the Campaign was published with twenty chapters including definitions, technical basis for the different phases, identification of animals, diagnostic tests, import & export requirements, slaughter surveillance, quarantine, research incentives & sections. During 1995, the CONEB workforce consisted of 33 State Coordinators, 172 supervisors and laboratory personnel, and 20 staff members. At present there are 1, 847 accredited veterinarians.

Six hundred and thirty-eight herds were given the Free Herd Status and 202 herds were renovated, 2, 792 herds were found negative and the first tuberculin test including 251, 842 heads.

During 1995 and the first trimester of 1996, 3, 307, 005 tuberculin tests were reported resulting in 7, 296 reactors. 1, 433, 614 bovine were slaughtered and inspected by histopathology and 74 by bacteriology.

Brucellosis

In the brucellosis eradication program during 1995 and first trimester of 1996 almost 800 herds were accredited free and 2, 000 were negative in the first herd test.

Four hundred and fifty thousand goats have been vaccinated and 250, 000 were tested.
