and FFA members who purchase these lambs for exhibition will have to
be instructed to leave the producers ear tag in the ear so that data
can be collected at market ready measurement.
Breed – Record at least in the three major categories 1) BFMW - Black face medium wool - Hampshire or Suffolk, 2) WB - Wool breeds – Rambouillet, Columbia, Targhee, etc., 3) OMW - other medium wool - Dorset, etc. If specific breed is known also record that information. Muscling – Record at both docking and market ready assessment as 1) HM - heavy muscled, 2) MM - medium muscled, 3) LM - light muscled. Sex – Record as male or female. Measurement
– With the lamb on its
feet, the detail device will be placed under the tail with the tail
contained in the trough created by the PVC pipe.
Ensure that the flange is in firm contact with the pen bones
and that the device is held level.
Slide the plunger into the device until contact is made with
the tail. Record the
graduated mark on the device that the distance indicator completely
extends beyond (not the closest mark).
If the distance indicator lies exactly on a graduated mark on
the device, record that mark. The
device is made from material that will allow for disinfectant to be
used on it for sanitation purposes. Age
– Record at docking only 1) less than 2 weeks of age, or 2) 3-4
weeks of age. Weight – Record at market ready assessment. Prolapse
– Record only at market ready time if lamb has experienced
problem with prolapse. |
