Position Statement  

 

 

Eliminate the practices associated with unethical behavior in the Junior Livestock Show Program through education. Internal communication must be conducted with all organizations that are attempting to implement a successful educational animal science program for youth.



Desired Outcomes  

  • Request that LCI bridge all stakeholders to keep communications going.

  • Develop database that identifies the problem.

  • Develop database of resources to address the problem.

  • Develop database for existing laws addressing showring ethics.

  • Develop a train-the-trainer program.

  • Develop a database for successful resources to reach educational goals.

 

 

 

Action Items

  • Develop a resource library and resource list on ethics education. Ensure educational materials are research‑based.

  • Develop a judge's competency evaluation and list of recommended judges.
     

  • Empower youth so that they can feel ownership for the program through involving youth in policy making and oversight and in events such as the National Youth Livestock Program Ethics Symposium.
     

  • Provide a database suggesting successful alternatives to junior auctions.
     

  • Conduct research to decide how widespread the problem is and develop a clearinghouse of information regarding the problem.
     

  • Promote ethics in all aspects of youth development.
     

  • Implement total quality management.
     

  • Provide opportunities for symposiums such as this one for stakeholders.
     

  • Develop and implement a train‑the‑trainer program.
