Position Statement  

 

The NYLPES supports the efforts to assimilate information from all groups involved in the showing of livestock and to correlate and distribute that information on a national, state and local level.



Desired Outcomes

  • Provide information to fair management regarding programs, experiences, and results related to livestock.

  • Remove the "curtain of silence" by promoting communication between all organizations involved.
     

  • Increase awareness of NYLPES programs and its goals.

 


 

 

 

 

 

 

 

Action Items

  • Stimulate interest in ethics on a national, state and local level.

  • Create a newsletter.

  • Establish an ethics symposium on a state level.

  • Develop a database available to local affiliates.

  • Conduct workshops at conferences to remind ethics and to promote ethical practices.

  • Find how many states have "Inherent Risk" laws in place and share information on them with other states.

  • Provide sample statements relative to "Inherent Risk" for use at fairs and shows.

  • Provide for electronic distribution of the "Code of Conduct," "Wholesome Assurance Statement," and "Inherent Risk" to interested parties.

  • Continue to conduct a National Youth Ethics Symposium and facilitate state and/ or regional meetings as needed.

  • Communicate directly with school and extension administrators, as well as professional organizations, about the National Youth Livestock Program Ethics Symposium and its importance. Provide advance notice about the location, date, program and cost to facilitate attendance.
